The SMEsforFOOD project was
launched in Toulouse, France on December 12th 2003, during the 2nd
annual Food Safety and Quality Technology trade fair. The event
gathered several commission officials, coordinators of IPs and NoEs and
researchers in the field of Food Quality and Safety.
The SMEsforFOOD project
is a 3-year long initiative, with the objective to promote the
participation of SMEs in FP6’s new types of instruments (IPs and NoEs)
in the Food Quality and Safety fields. SMEsforFOOD project initially
aimed for at least 150 SMEs to benefit from the initiative and take
part in FP6’s challenging new instruments. In order to achieve this
objective, the SMEsforFOOD project has developed a set of activities
towards SMEs and project leaders:
- workshops, information days, promotion activities on FP opportunities for SMEs - identification and profiling of high quality SMEs - assistance of SMEs willing to join European projects - identification and profiling of projects under preparation or running projects and looking for partners - assistance of projects leaders willing to involve SMEs in their projects - personalised partner-search and organisation of brokerage events - etc.
In
the last FP6 “Food Quality and Safety” call (call 4), SMEs’
participation in STREP projects was strongly encouraged. Therefore SMEsforFOOD adapted its scope of activities, in agreement with the EC, in order to assist SMEs in joining such types of projects too.
After
2 years of activities, the success of the project has led the
SMEsforFOOD consortium to widen their activities in the last year in
order to address the end of FP6 and to prepare SMEs for their
involvement in FP7.
Led by OSEO anvar, (formerly ANVAR, French Agency for Innovation), the consortium of the SMEsforFOOD project, comprises 19 partners from 16 countries.
