A dedicated European network for the improvement of SME's participation in FP6 Food Quality and Safety Sector - IP, NoE and STREP Projects
Developing collaboration between SMEsforFOOD and SPAS Projects
A meeting was organised on 10th March
Launched in December 2003 for 3 years, SMEsforFOOD (Specific Support action to improve the participation of SMEs in Integrated projects and Networks of Excellence in the Food Quality and Safety sector) has been developing a European network for the involvement of SMEs of the food quality and safety sector mainly in IP, NoEs and recently in STREPS of the 6th Framework Programme (FP6). Set up in September 2005 for 2 years, the SPAS (SMEs virtual Platform on Agro-food Sector to access the Sixth and Seventh Framework Programme) initiative will extend the work of its fellow project by developing tools and a virtual working platform (website) to encourage the integration of SMEs of the agro-food sector in both FP6 and FP7 instruments: mainly IPs, NoEs.
The collaboration of SMEsforFOOD and SPAS over the next months will favour the exchange of complementarities, and creation of synergies. Their joint efforts will help agro-food SMEs carry out RTD and innovation activities. This coordinated cooperation will directly support the implementation of the EC agenda in related areas: agriculture, fishing, food quality and safety, sustainable development, public health, etc., with a special attention to the involvement of SMEs in dedicated European Technology Platforms and Joint Technology Initiatives. Customers will equally benefit from those activities finding more and better quality products at competitive prices.
